Frequently Asked
Questions

Will I lose my independence?
Not at all. You will in fact gain more freedom as you won’t be burdened with maintaining the house, yard, winter snow shoveling, housekeeping, shopping and cooking.
Can my family and friends come to visit?
Yes of course. In some of our communities, there are guest suites for your family to stay in, and a private dining room you can reserve for family gatherings. You can reserve a table in the dining room as well.
What is the difference between Long Term Care Homes and Retirement Communities?
A. Long Term Care Homes are regulated by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and receive government funding. Retirement homes do not receive government funding. Residents living in Long Term Care require 24 hour supervision.
Retirement Communities are designed for more independent older adults. Assisted living services are available at Delmanor. We also offer a dedicated Memory Care neighbourhood at our Richmond Hill community.
Residents living in a Retirement Community pay for the full cost of their accommodation, services and any care. Retirement communities decide the type of care services they will provide. Residents can purchase any of the care services offered, or arrange for private care from external care providers (or a combination of both).
Will I be able to bring my own furniture?
Yes. We encourage you to bring your favorite furniture, pictures, and other personal items. It’s your suite, and we want you to decorate as you wish and be comfortable.
How much does it cost to live at Delmanor?
The type of suite you choose and the care services you desire will determine your cost per month. Speak with one of our Community Relation Manager’s to learn more about the options provided at Delmanor.
Do you sign a lease?
Yes. Leases are on a month to month basis, so if anything ever changes, residents simply provide 30 days’ written notice.
Can I bring my pet with me?
Yes. Delmanor is pet friendly! That said, we have a pet policy. The size, weight, type and number of pets will determine if we will be able to accommodate your pet before you move in.
What do I do if I have an emergency?
Every resident receives a pendant to wear and can press it for any kind of emergency. We also have healthcare professions onsite 24 hours a day.
What fire safety procedures are in place?
Delmanor has monthly fire drills for employees and residents, along with a mandatory annual evacuation drill. Smoke detectors and sprinklers are in place throughout the building. We work with the local fire departments to ensure all procedures and fire plans are followed
Do you offer short-stays?
Yes, our communities offer respite/short stays for those needing care after surgery or illness. In addition, Delmanor offers trial and vacation stays to discover The Delmanor Experience before making a permanent move.
